Learn to Play Popular Music in a Group Setting
Students learn how to play selected songs within a band setting, how to listen and interact with other musicians, how to follow an arrangement and how to work with others to make music. Presentation, improvisation and stage presence will all be covered.
Rehearse and Perform
Players will select songs, rehearse parts individually and together, and learn to properly prepare for a performance, culminating in a public concert at the end of the program.
Get Tips and Coaching from a Professional Performer
Students will get tips, advice and coaching from an active professional performer. Tom Mein has played professionally for almost 40 years, in groups as small as 2 and as large as 18, in every style of popular music (blues, jazz, hard rock, metal, rockabilly, punk, country and pop), on stages and in front of audiences of all sizes. He also has over 25 years experience teaching all levels of guitar. Learn the ins and outs of playing in a band, get tips on preparation and equipment, and hear advice on performing!
Students will be performing several popular songs together, counting measures, following cues and memorizing song forms. Notation reading is a plus but not mandatory. Ask your teacher if you are ready for group playing. This is a fun opportunity to make real music on a real stage!
